The Tamins rock avalanche (eastern Switzerland): timing and emplacement processes

چکیده
Abstract The Tamins rock avalanche lies adjacent to the Flims avalanche, largest in Alps. Its deposit forms a ridge across Rhine Valley just downstream of confluence Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein rivers. is dominated by 1.6-km-long longitudinal ridge, Ils Aults, two roughly 600-m-long transverse ridges. Several extensional scarps bear witness spreading deposit. A breach through deposit, where River presently flows, reveals carapace intense fragmentation. Exposure dating using cosmogenic 36 Cl yields an age 9420 ± 880 years. This suggests that event occurred time frame similar but was slightly earlier than as also required stratigraphic relationships. 3D volume modeling bulking only 14%. motion seems have first flexible block, which underwent fragmentation simple shearing top moved faster bottom. ensuing led formation scarps. There no identified weak layer along sliding surface; nevertheless, friction angle 10°.

The establishment of stroke networks is an approach to forward guideline driven stroke care to hospitals without full-time neurological service. Tele- stroke networks are evidence based for remote neurological support of acute stroke patients, administration of thrombolysis safely as well as increasing thrombolysis rates. Since 2011 the district hospital in Grabs was linked to the stroke center...
متن کاملPan-African granite emplacement mechanisms in the Eastern Desert, Egypt
The late Pan-African Fawakhir, Urn Had and Urn Effein Granite Plutons in the Egyptian Central Eastern Desert are small, elongate to circular bodies of pink monzogranite and syenogranite, and grey monzodiorite. Structural investigation of the intrusive contacts of these plutons reveals marginal sub-horizontal intrusive sheets as magma injection along preexisting flat-lying structures including m...
متن کاملAnalysis of rock-fall and rock-fall avalanche seismograms in the French Alps
This study reviews seismograms from 10 rock-fall events recorded between 1992 and 2001 by the permanent seismological network Sismalp in the French Alps. A new seismic magnitude scale was defined, which allowed us to compare and classify ground-motion vibrations generated by these Alpine rock-falls. Each rock-fall has also been characterized by its ground-motion duration t30 at an epicentral di...
متن کاملComparison of avalanche survival patterns in Canada and Switzerland.
BACKGROUND Current recommendations for rescue and resuscitation of people buried in avalanches are based on Swiss avalanche survival data. We analyzed Canadian survival patterns and compared them with those from Switzerland. METHODS We extracted relevant data for survivors and nonsurvivors of complete avalanche burials from Oct. 1, 1980, to Sept. 30, 2005, from Canadian and Swiss databases. W...
متن کاملEarly Holocene (8.6 ka) rock avalanche deposits, Obernberg valley (Eastern Alps): Landform interpretation and kinematics of rapid mass movement
In the Obernberg valley, the Eastern Alps, landforms recently interpreted as moraines are re-interpreted as rock avalanche deposits. The catastrophic slope failure involved an initial rock volume of about 45 million m³, with a runout of 7.2 km over a total vertical distance of 1330 m (fahrböschung 10°). 36Cl surface-exposure dating of boulders of the avalanche mass indicates an event age of 8.6...
